HJHansen Recycling Group A/S is one of northern Europe’s leading recycling companies for ferrous and non-ferrous scrap, and related materials. We constantly strive to ensure all our value chain activities are arranged to correctly address environmental and climate challenges, employee and social issues, human rights and anti-corruption issues.

We consider people and the environment to be the heart and core of our business and we process recyclable materials into marketable products – with respect for the environment and humans.

Through our recycling processes, HJHansen Recycling A/S promotes the sustainable use of resources and creates the basis for limiting the use of raw materials, preventing pollution, and minimising waste and energy consumption. We work hard with our suppliers and customers to maximise traceability of purchases and sales.

This Code of Conduct applies to all HJHansen Recycling Group A/S companies and constitutes the rules of play for how we do business. Thus, HJHansen Recycling Group A/S seeks to ensure that social and environmental responsibility are placed at the heart of our relations with customers and suppliers.

HJHansen Recycling Group A/S considers all customers and suppliers who have an agreement or contract with HJHansen Recycling Group A/S as business partners covered by this Code of Conduct.

If an external or internal stakeholder becomes aware of something that does not conform to this Code of Conduct, the matter can be reported directly to the CEO of HJHansen Recycling Group A/S (


Our business partners must comply with applicable international, national and local legislation, regulations and industry standards. Particularly relevant here are the WEEE and BAT Directives, environmental and waste management legislation and underlying regulations.

We expect our business partners to keep HJHansen Recycling Group A/S informed in the event of any significant changes in relation to the approvals and permits they hold.

Employee relations and human rights

We guarantee all our employees working conditions and opportunities in accordance with the conditions and practices in force locally, without distinction or discrimination based on race, gender, age, nationality, pregnancy, disease, religion, sexual orientation, trade union membership or political affiliation. The same is expected from our business partners.

We support the International Labour Organization (ILO) guidelines on child labour. The same is expected from our business partners. This means that:

  • All employees are aged 13 years or over.
  • Employees between the ages of 13 and 15 carry out only light work.
  • The parents of employees who are aged between 13 and 15 or who are subject to compulsory education must be informed of the work and of the conditions under which the work is carried out.
  • The minimum age for full-time workers is 15 (or 14 where local legislation permits in accordance with the ILO exception for developing countries).
  • Employees under 18 years of age do not carry out hazardous work or work at night.
  • All apprentices of the company are over 15 years of age and work as part of their training.

We support and respect our employees’ right to freedom of association and their right to collective bargaining in relation to wages and employment conditions. The same is expected from our business partners.

We condemn any and all use of forced labour and do not accept any kind of violence or threats in the workplace. The same is expected from our business partners.

We do not accept any kind of propaganda (political, religious or similar) in the workplace. The same is expected from our business partners.

We consider the Code of Conduct to be an integral part of employment at HJHansen Recycling Group A/S and all employees have been given our Code of Conduct and the latest version is always available at Employees have a duty to familiarise themselves with and comply with the rules set out in the Code of Conduct. We expect relevant employees of our business partners to be familiar with and adhere to this Code of Conduct.

Occupational safety and health

We strive for a healthy and safe working environment to minimise the risk of occupational accidents and injuries to employees and visitors alike. The same is expected from our business partners.

We comply with the Danish Working Environment Act. The same is expected from our business partners.

We prepare job assessments (APV reports) and take the best available precautions against accidents and occupational diseases. The same is expected from our business partners.

We offer training and ensure that employees have information about and are trained in health, safety and how to perform their duties correctly. The same is expected from our business partners.

We record and follow up on any accidents and near-miss accidents to continuously improve health and safety efforts.

Climate and environmental protection

Through our recycling processes, HJHansen Recycling A/S promotes the sustainable use of resources and creates the basis for limiting the use of raw materials, preventing pollution, and minimising waste as well as energy consumption.

We aim to continuously improve production technologies and work processes in order to minimise overall climate and environmental impact.

We comply with national regulations and legislation as well as international climate and environmental protection standards.

We take the greatest possible account of the local community in the production processes by limiting noise, nuisance odour and waste water discharges, etc.

We record any adverse incidents and near-miss adverse incidents in relation to the environment with a view to continuously improving climate and environmental protection efforts.

We encourage the greatest possible consideration of environmental impact from the transportation of goods.

We offer customers, suppliers and other stakeholders advice and assistance in the collection, processing and recycling of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap to produce valuable new resources and energy.

We ensure that trade in ferrous and non-ferrous scrap is carried out in a safe and sound manner, in accordance with national and international rules and legislation.

As far as possible, HJHansen Recycling Group A/S business partners must support the circular economy by ensuring traceability and documentation through data and digitisation.

When buying goods or components for recycling or to process for reuse, HJHansen Recycling Group A/S business partners must pay particular attention to the impact of the goods in terms of displacement. This means a documented assessment is required to ensure that the process the replaced goods are subjected to will not have a real-terms adverse environmental impact. In the case of reuse, this means that where the sales consist of components or units a documented assessment must be carried out to establish that the process to which the replaced component is subject does not end up having a negative impact on the environment.

Market behaviour, corruption and bribery

We champion free and fair competition and do not enter into discussions or agreements with competitors or business connections regarding market sharing, cartel formation or similar anti-competitive activities.

We do not under any circumstances engage in bribery or related matters to promote the interests of the company.

We set the same strict requirements and standards for our customers, suppliers and other stakeholders as for our own activities. Evaluation of business partners includes an assessment of their ability to comply with our Code of Conduct.

We intend to terminate cooperation with any customer, supplier or stakeholder who breaks the rules of our Code of Conduct.

Audit (Visit)

We reserve the option to inspect and verify business partners to ensure compliance with this Code of Conduct.

We need to be able to access our business partners’ facilities and processes. Access will be agreed in advance.

We reserve the right to visit business partners annually for the purpose of evaluating compliance with the Code of Conduct, including the requirement for documentation regarding reporting performance in relation to recycling, recovery and sending to landfill of reprocessed components received from the HJH.

If an on-site inspection reveals non-compliance with the Code of Conduct, we will engage in a constructive dialogue with the business partner in question with a view to improving matters.
